Ideolodists of the Music Industry - Hebdige

Whilst Adorno believed that Capitalists are in full of the public's consumption of popular culture, Hebdige believed that the public are in full control of there actions. The theorist states that "consumption is an active process" and not all consumption of music can be of popular culture. The creation of sub cultures or, in the case of music, subgenres allows people to create there own individual identity and develop thier own specific taste and creativity

Ideolodists of the Music Industry - Adorno

Adorno as a Socialist was very against populated cultures and expressed negative connotations towards ideas of Capitalism. The theorist believed that popular culture feeds Capitalism and our constant consumption of it only keeps Capitalists in control. He argued that the culture industry, which produced and circulated cultural commodities through the mass media, manipulated the population. He generalised that the root of all the world's social and moral problems was the public's view on popular culture and that the pop industry stops the public from worrying about 'real' issues.
