Music Video Anaylsis

Video 1 : Figure It Out - Royal Blood

Straight away the video reflects the lyrics subject matter of confusion and curiosity. We see a woman making her way around a shopping centre through out with people chasing her and an unknown man. Whats most unique about this video is its changes between a blue and red filter. Each filter reviels more and more of the main characters story leading up to climactic ending. This effect would be very hard to replicate but is achievable using certain paints and colour only seeable through these filters. You could call this a 3D glasses effect due to the two colours perhaps suggesting this may be at a movie thearte within the shopping centre.
the ending the music video is when the music is at its most dynamic which is also when we learn the full back story to the unnamed charatcer.  It is typical of Hard Rock bands to include sensitive themes in there music video such as kidnapping as seen in this video.

Video 2 : Shadow Moses - Bring Me The Horizon

The unique thing about this music video is that its shot by two cameras at once. The  trick to this is the editor flicks between the two pieces of footage simultaniously in time with the music. This gives the video a jumpy effect but only allows for straight cut transitions. Slow motion camera work is alsoo heavily used throughout this music video although there is very accurate and in time usage of lip sync. Unlike the previous video seen above, this music video does not neccessarily tell a story but centres around the band instead whilst including some shots of a young women walking in the snow. During the shots of the group, the lead vocalist is usually centre, typical of a hard rock band although there are a few solo shots of the drummer, bassists and guitarist. Lots of location shots are inserted to fill out any gaps between group shots and solo shots. As well as using different locations and weather conditions throughout the music video some members of the band are wearing completely different wardrobe in different scenes. The choice in costume contains many items of the lead vocalist's clothing line, working as below the line marketing line advertising technique. The use of a flare at night in the snow seen at the begining and end of the video is highly effective and could be translated as symbolic towards liveliness and hard rock sound of the song.

Video 3 : Queen of Hearts - Darlia

Similar to the Royal Blood video, this music video realise heavily on the different coloured filters to give adds to the effect of insanity that the lyric content convey. Although the video mainly consists of live performance by the band there are jump cuts through that show old footage from television as well as static. The whole entire video is clearly shot with an old 90's style camera. I think the group have done this to add both a 'retro' and grunge rock feel to there music as well as including flowers and bright colours to add to any psycadelic elements the song has (the verse most notably). The video is also shot handheld throughout emphasising the hard rock genre it is.
